Vans is owned by VF Corporation.

American action sports footwear and lifestyle brand founded on March 16, 1966, in Anaheim, California by Paul Van Doren, his brother James Van Doren, Gordon C. Lee, and Serge D'Elia as the Van Doren Rubber Company. The founders manufactured shoes on-site and sold them directly to customers from the factory floor, enabling rapid customization and low prices. Vans became synonymous with California skateboarding culture after the brand's waffle-sole shoes were adopted by skaters in the early 1970s, and gained broader cultural recognition when Sean Penn wore checkerboard Vans slip-ons in the 1982 film Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Vans filed for bankruptcy in 1984 amid overexpansion, emerged in 1986, went public on NASDAQ in 1991, and was acquired by VF Corporation in 2004. It is headquartered in Cypress, California, and sells products in over 75 countries across footwear, apparel, and accessories, sponsoring action sports, music, art, and street culture globally.
