International sunglass retail chain founded in 1971 by optometrist Sanford Ziff as a single kiosk in Miami's Dadeland Mall. By the mid-1980s the brand had expanded significantly and Ziff sold a 75% stake to Kidd, Kamm & Co. for $35 million in 1986. Luxottica Group acquired the company in 2001 when it operated approximately 1,962 locations, and upon Luxottica's 2018 merger with Essilor the brand became part of EssilorLuxottica. As of 2025, Sunglass Hut is EssilorLuxottica's largest retail chain with over 3,100 locations worldwide, offering premium and designer sunglasses from brands including Ray-Ban, Oakley, Prada, and Versace.
