The eponymous brand was founded in 1986 producing shoes in Elba, Spain known for its shoemaking expertise. Most of Stuart Weitzman shoes are still made there.

Stuart Weitzman was acquired by Tapestry in 2015 for $530M; it was not successful under their ownership and was sold to Caleres in 2025.
