Personal Care
American liquid hand soap and body wash brand created by entrepreneur Robert Taylor and his Minnetonka Corporation in the late 1970s, launching as one of the first mass-market liquid hand soaps in the United States. Taylor famously cornered the entire US supply of hand pump mechanisms to prevent competitors from copying the product at launch, giving Softsoap a critical head start in the category. Softsoap became the leading liquid hand soap brand in the US before Colgate-Palmolive acquired the brand from Minnetonka Corporation in 1987. Colgate has since expanded Softsoap into body wash and maintained its position as the top-selling liquid hand soap brand in the United States.
