American shapewear and lifestyle apparel brand co-founded in 2019 in Culver City, California by Kim Kardashian (Chief Creative Officer), Jens Grede (CEO), and Emma Grede (Chief Product Officer), initially conceived as "Kimono Intimates" before the name was changed following criticism that it appropriated Japanese cultural heritage. Skims launched with a focus on inclusive shapewear in nine skin-tone shades and sizes XXS through 5XL, selling out its entire inventory within ten minutes of launch and generating over $2 million on its first day. The brand expanded rapidly from core shapewear into loungewear, lingerie, swimwear, and menswear (launched 2023), and in 2025 partnered with Nike to launch NikeSkims, a women's performance and activewear co-brand that sold out within hours. Skims is the official underwear partner of the NBA, WNBA, and USA Basketball under a multiyear deal announced in 2023. In March 2025, Skims acquired the SKKN by Kim beauty brand from Coty to consolidate Kardashian's beauty and lifestyle ventures under the Skims umbrella. The brand operates 18 US retail stores and two franchise locations in Mexico, with a flagship on Regent Street, London scheduled to open in summer 2026. Skims reached a $5 billion valuation in November 2025 after a $225 million funding round led by Goldman Sachs Alternatives, making it one of the most valuable private apparel companies in the United States. It is expected to exceed $1 billion in net sales in 2025.
