Italian luxury watchmaker with roots in Florence dating to 1860, when Giovanni Panerai opened a watchmaking school and shop on the Ponte alle Grazie. Panerai supplied precision instruments and watches to the Italian Navy from the early twentieth century, developing a reputation for robust, legible dive watches in large cases. The brand relaunched commercially in 1993 and was acquired by Vendôme Luxury Group (later Richemont) in 1997. Panerai is known for its Luminor and Radiomir collections, characterised by cushion-shaped cases, crown-protecting bridges, and sandwich dials.
