Moncler is a public company.

French-founded, Italian-headquartered luxury outerwear and lifestyle brand established in Monestier-de-Clermont—the name is an abbreviation of its founding town.

Originally producing down sleeping bags and protective gear for mountain workers and expeditions, Moncler equipped the Italian K2 expedition in 1954 and became the official outfitter for the French national downhill ski team at the 1968 Grenoble Winter Olympics.

After transitioning to Italian ownership in 1992, the brand was acquired by entrepreneur Remo Ruffini in 2003, who relocated it to Milan and repositioned it as a global luxury brand.

Moncler listed on the Milan Stock Exchange in December 2013. In December 2020 it acquired Stone Island for €1.15 billion. In 2024 the group reported revenues of €3.1 billion. Ruffini remains executive chairman; LVMH holds an indirect stake via Ruffini's holding vehicle Double R.
