Personal Care
Swedish MedTech company founded in 1849 by Gustaf Ferdinand Hennig in the town of Mölnlycke as a textile manufacturer, which became one of the main gauze suppliers to Swedish hospitals by the early 1900s before pioneering the industrial manufacturing of sterile swabs and wound dressings in the 1950s. Mölnlycke is today a world-leading provider of single-use surgical products and advanced wound care solutions, operating across three business areas: Wound Care (advanced dressings including the Mepilex and Mepitel ranges built on proprietary Safetac technology), Surgical (BARRIER-branded drapes, gowns, and Biogel surgical gloves), and Antiseptics (Hibiclens and Hibi chlorhexidine-based skin cleansers). The company was acquired by SCA in 1975, spun off as an independent company in 1997 under Nordic Capital, and merged with Regent Medical (owner of Biogel gloves and Hibiclens) and Medlock Medical in 2005, forming the current Mölnlycke Health Care Group. Investor AB acquired the group in 2007 and today owns approximately 99% through its Patricia Industries subsidiary. Mölnlycke operates in over 90 countries, employs approximately 8,700 people, and reported revenues of around SEK 23 billion in 2024.
