Fashion
American women's fashion brand originally founded in New York City by Belgian designer Liz Claiborne and her husband Art Ortenberg. The brand grew rapidly by offering affordable, mix-and-match separates designed for working women and became one of the first women-founded companies to make the Fortune 500, in 1986. Liz Claiborne Inc. sold the trademark to JCPenney in 2011 as part of an exclusive licensing arrangement, and the brand now operates as a private label line sold exclusively through JCPenney and its digital channels.
