Fashion
The flagship American casual apparel brand of Gap Inc., founded in San Francisco in 1969. Originally conceived to sell Levi's jeans in every size and style, the Gap brand pivoted to its own private-label merchandise in 1972 and became synonymous with casual American style through iconic advertising and wardrobe staples including denim, khakis, and logo sweatshirts. After several years of declining relevance in the 2010s, the brand underwent a significant repositioning beginning in 2024 with designer Zac Posen appointed as Creative Director, which drove a return to positive comparable sales and renewed cultural momentum. Gap operates company-owned stores in the US, Canada, Japan, and several European markets, with franchise operations across Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.
