Fashion

Comme des Garçons is an independent company.

Japanese avant-garde fashion house founded by Rei Kawakubo, who began designing under the Comme des Garçons name in Tokyo in 1969 before formally incorporating the company in 1973. The brand achieved international notoriety with its Paris Fashion Week debut in 1981, presenting deconstructed, asymmetric, and monochromatic collections that challenged the prevailing conventions of Western fashion. Comme des Garçons has evolved into a multibrand ecosystem encompassing Comme des Garçons Homme, Comme des Garçons SHIRT, Play, CDG, and designer sub-labels for collaborators including Junya Watanabe and Kei Ninomiya. The company is privately held and fully controlled by Kawakubo and her husband, president Adrian Joffe, and is headquartered in Tokyo.
