American women's fashion brand founded in New York City, known for its colorful, whimsical, and heavily embellished designs. Co-founded by designer Betsey Johnson and former model Chantal Bacon. The brand filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2012 after accumulating significant debt; Steve Madden Ltd. had acquired its intellectual property in 2010 and assumed control. Johnson continued as creative director until 2020, when her daughter Lulu took over creative leadership.
