French footwear and outdoor apparel brand founded in Montargis by American entrepreneur Hiram Hutchinson, who acquired Charles Goodyear's rubber vulcanization patent to manufacture waterproof rubber boots. Originally named Compagnie du Caoutchouc Souple. Became known as Aigle (French for "eagle," referencing the American eagle) and expanded into outdoor clothing and accessories. Manufacturing of rubber boots has remained in France. Acquired by MF Brands Group in 2003.
